If you do not have Java installed, you may be prompted that Java is required. When you click ok a web page to download Java should open automatically. If it does not, you can use this link to download Java.

Installing Java Runtime Envirenment (JRE):

  1. Click on Agree and Start Download.
  2. Run or Save and Run the installation file.
  3. Follow the on screen instructions to install Java

TIP – When installing Java (if required), be sure to uncheck the the options to install Ask toolbar and change your default search provider and homepage, unless you want those options.

Downloading and Installing the Virtual COM Port Driver (if required).

In order for the GUI to work, a virtual COM port must be established. This requires a USB to UART bridge virtual COM port driver which can be downloaded here for Windows 10 computers or here for Windows 7/8 computers.

Install the appropriate driver for your operating system before attempting to connect the computer to the Helix. When connecting to the Helix (covered below), you will use the COM port that is created by this driver. The process is relatively straight forward for Windows.
