How do I return the Helix to factory settings?

Published on February 4, 2017 in sections Letus Helix, Software

Sometimes people will mess up the settings or the calibration or the encoder calibration and wonder if there is a way to return the Helix to “factory settings.”  The answer depends on when you purchased or last upgraded your Helix.

Helixes purchased in 2017 or later or Helixes receiving the encoder upgrade

If you purchased your Helix 2017 or later and it is encoded (or have gotten the encoder upgrade in 2017 or later, then the answer is yes.  To restore your system to factory settings,

  • Download and install the appropriate GUI for your Helix (firmware version 2.63 b0)
  • Connect to the Helix
  • At the top of the screen, go to Board -> Backup Manager
  • In the bottom half of the screen (the Restore section), select the radio button next to Factory Backup (there should be additional text next to it if there was a factory backup of your system).
  • Hit the Restore button and wait for it to restore.

This process downloads your original profiles and accelerometer/gyro calibrations and your encoder calibrations from the Internet and writes them back to your Helix.

Helixes purchased in 2016 or earlier that have not received the encoder upgrade in 2017 or later.

If you purchased your Helix in 2016 or earlier, then the best thing to do is to load new profiles (see this article) and recalibrate the accelerometers and gyros (see this article).
